On The Road to Becoming

I’m on a road.

A road to what, exactly?

Of that I’m unsure.

But I know I’m on one.

I’ll find out—

sooner rather than later.

But who decides

if later is bad

and sooner isn’t?

For now, I’m just glad

to be on a road.

A path that moves —

onward, or maybe not.

I may falter, I may fall.

But so what?

If that isn’t what life is,

then it’s not.

Sometimes, the road is the only certainty – and that’s enough. I don’t need to know where it ends, only that I’m moving. Falling, faltering, or flying… it’s all part of the journey.

  1. “The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say”

  2. Perhaps Bilbo’s words are the best response to this: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
